11.11.11 – the hottest date to wed

JOHOR BARU: Chinese couples are increasingly choosing “special” dates rather than referring to the traditional lunar calendar to fix their wedding day.

This year, the hot date is expected to be Nov 11 or 11.11.11 the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 2011.

“I believe Oct 9, which falls on a Sunday, will also be a popular date for couples because of the ascending numbers in the date (9-10-11),” said Johor Baru Tiong Hua Association manager Eric Ku.

He said Oct 1 (or 1.10.11) on Saturday also proved to be a popular date, with more than 20 pairs of eager couples registering their marriage with the association at a two-hour solemnisation ceremony here.

“Of course, the hottest date to wed this year is Nov 11 and we are targeting 111 couples to sign up for a mass wedding solemnisation ceremony on that special day,” he added.

“Nowadays, lovebirds do not really plan their wedding dates according to the lunar calendar as done in the past.

“Couples usually choose dates that are in descending or ascending order, or other attractive numerological sequence.

“They enjoy the novelty of getting hitched on special dates such as 1-1-11, 11-1-11 or 20-11-2011,” he said.

Ku said that according to the lunar calendar, October and November are also auspicious months and a favourable time to tie the knot among the Chinese community.

He called on couples who are interested to join the mass wedding planned on Nov 11 to contact the association at 07-2788 999.
