Tributes for Apple 'visionary' Steve Jobs

An iPhone displays an image of Steve Jobs at a makeshift memorial outside an Apple Store in New York on 5 October 2011

World and business leaders have been paying tribute to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who has died at the age of 56 from pancreatic cancer.
US President Barack Obama and Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev said Mr Jobs had changed the world.
Microsoft's Bill Gates said it had been "an insanely great honour" to work with him. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg remembered his "mentor and friend".
The Twitter microblog site struggled to cope with the traffic of tributes.
Apple itself said Mr Jobs had been "the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives" and had made the world "immeasurably better".
Thousands of celebrities and ordinary people went on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to record their tributes and memories of the man behind products such as the iPod, the iPhone, the iPad.
The death of Mr Jobs could create a record for Twitter traffic.
Thousands of people all over the world have also been attending Apple stores to leave flowers, notes, and apples with a bite taken from them to mimic the company's logo.
Apple's leading rivals such as Microsoft, Google, Sony and Samsung all chipped in with glowing tributes.
GS Choi, chief executive of Samsung, which is embroiled in a major court battle with Apple on patents, said Mr Jobs was an "innovative spirit" who "introduced numerous revolutionary changes to the information technology industry".
In his statement, Bill Gates said: "The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it's been an insanely great honour."
Mr Zuckerberg wrote on Facebook: "Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you."
His comments were "liked" by more than 200,000 people within hours.
In his own tweet, Barack Obama wrote: "There may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented."
Web users in China have reportedly posted almost 35 million online tributes.
Tim Cook, who was made Apple's CEO after Mr Jobs stood down in August, said his predecessor had left behind "a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple".
UK Prime Minister David Cameron said: "Steve Jobs transformed the way we work and play; a creative genius who will be sorely missed."
New York mayor Michael Bloomberg said the US had "lost a genius who will be remembered with Edison and Einstein".
People also gathered outside Mr Jobs's home in California's Silicon Valley to lay floral wreaths, while flags were flown at half mast outside the Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California.
A statement from Mr Jobs's family said they were with him when he died peacefully on Wednesday.
"In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family," they said, requesting privacy and thanking those who had "shared their wishes and prayers" during his final year.
Face of Apple
Mr Jobs built a reputation as a forthright and demanding leader who could take niche technologies - such as the mouse and graphical user interface, using onscreen icons rather than text - and make them popular with the general public.
He introduced the colourful iMac computer, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad to the world. His death came just a day after Apple unveiled its latest iPhone 4S model.
With a market value estimated at $351bn (£227bn), Apple became the world's most valuable technology company.
More than almost any other business leader, Mr Jobs was indistinguishable from his company, which he co-founded in the 1970s.
As the face of Apple, he represented its dedication to high-end technology and fashionable design.
And inside the company he exerted a level of influence unheard of in most businesses.
Mr Jobs also provided major funding to set up Pixar Animation Studios.
In 2004, Mr Jobs announced that he was suffering from pancreatic cancer. He had a liver transplant five years later.
In January, he took medical leave, before resigning as CEO in August and handing over his duties to Mr Cook.
In his resignation letter, Mr Jobs said: "I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role."
However, Mr Jobs stayed on as Apple's chairman.
Despite his high profile, he remained fiercely protective of his private life.
He married his wife Laurene in 1991, and the couple had three children.
Mr Jobs also leaves a daughter from a previous relationship, and as an adult he discovered that he had a biological sister, US novelist Mona Simpson.

Think before visiting KFC & McDonald

KFC has been a part of our American traditions for many years.
Many people, day in and day out, eat at KFC religiously.
Do they really know what they are eating?
During a recent study of KFC done at the University of New Hampshire ,
they found some very upsetting facts.
First of all, has anybody noticed that just recently,
the company has changed their name?
Kentucky Fried Chicken has become KFC.
Does anybody know why?
We thought the real reason was because of the 'FRIED' food issue.
IT'S NOT! !
The reason why they call it KFC is because they can not use the word chicken anymore.
Why? KFC does not use real chickens.
They actually use genetically manipulated organisms.
These so called 'chickens' are kept alive by tubes inserted into their bodies
to pump blood and nutrients throughout their structure.

They have no beaks, no feathers, and no feet.
Their bone structure is dramatically shrunk to get more meat out of them.
This is great for KFC.
Because they do not have to pay so much for their production costs.
There is no more plucking of the feathers or the removal of the beaks and feet.
The government has told them to change all of their menus
so they do not say chicken anywhere. If you look closely you will notice this.
Listen to their commercials, I guarantee you will not see or hear the word chicken.
I find this matter to be very disturbing.

I hope people will start to realize this and let other people know.
Please forward this message to as many people as you can.
Together we make KFC start using real chicken again.

Foie Gras Foie Gras means "Fat Liver"

It's very very luxury menu that originates from France But this dish comes from FORCE FEEDING a goose to make them develop FATTY LIVER DISEASE.

Let's see the source of this wonderful dish

The geese are forced to eat.. even if it does not desire to

The metal pipe pass through the throat to stomach ...even if it does not want to eat anything

To make the liver  bigger and fatter

Cages are very small and they force the geese to stay in one position to avoid using energy, thus converting all food into fat.

How sad their eyes show up

Their legs were bloated from long standing everyday. No need to sleep because they will be caught to eat again

Although they try to defend themselves But it is useless

How sad this life is..

They are forced to eat until they are dead or their bodies cant stand with this

You see... the food is over its mouth

The left who survive have crapped to be inflamed asses...blood easily come up with the shit

Not only mouth hurt, throat hurt , all time stomach ache from the food , Fat to bloated legs , no sleep , no exercise But also no free movement for life to see the sky or river

New Apple iPhone fails to wow investors, fans

Apple CEO Tim Cook speaks in front of an image of an iPhone 4S at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California October 4 - Reuters

CUPERTINO, California: Apple Inc's newest iPhone left Wall Street and fans wishing for more than a souped-up version of last year's device, igniting a rare storm of criticism and disappointment on the Internet.
Newly minted CEO Tim Cook ably helmed his first major product launch without former boss Steve Jobs, but failed to ignite the sort of excitement and buzz that the charismatic Apple co-founder once did.
Expectations were high at this critical juncture, when Android phones by Samsung Electronics and other rivals are closing in on Apple's lead and the important holiday shopping season gets started.
Investors and fans, looking to be blown away by some amazing surprise, sent the shares down as much as 5 percent before they recovered with the market to close down 0.6 percent.
Cook, who took over from Jobs in August, and his executive team showed off a device that comes with voice recognition and a better camera, but looks identical to the last phone and does little to lift the bar for smartphones.
While the gadget wasn't as tricked out as some had hoped, analysts liked its voice-enabling technology that helps users vocalize everything from stock price searches to sending messages -- more easily than on Android phones or Research in Motion Blackberries.
"It's been 16 months and all you've got is an A5 processor in the existing iPhone 4," said BGC Partners' analyst Colin Gillis. "It's a mild disappointment, but they're still going to be selling millions of units."
Some shareholders and analysts hoped for a cameo appearance by Jobs, now chairman. The pancreatic cancer survivor, who took his third medical leave in August, did not appear.
In some ways, Apple may have been a victim of its past success. Its launches are some of the hottest events on the tech calendar. Tuesday's "Let's talk iPhone" show marked Cook's unofficial debut since taking over from Jobs in August.
Analysts say it is more crucial than ever to sustain the popularity of its aging iPhone 4. Apple sold more than 20 million units in the third quarter ended June 25.
"It's kind of funny -- if they have gone and called it the 5, the stock would have been fine, but they're calling it the 4S, which is a disappointment to some," said WP Stewart portfolio manager Michael Walker.
The iPhone, which accounts for more than 40 percent of Apple's sales, has been a success since it came out in 2007, making Apple into one of the world's leading consumer electronics companies.
INTENSIFYING COMPETITION
On a brighter note, the company would seem to be making inroads into potentially pivotal new markets.
It said more than 90 percent of Fortune 500 companies are testing or using its iPhones and iPads, expanding its presence in a corporate market dominated by RIM. RIM shares trading on the Nasdaq stock market slid nearly 3 percent before ending 2.4 percent higher. Googleshares finished 1.3 percent up.
The two-generation-old iPhone 3GS will be offered free, as long as users sign a contract. Analysts said that would help to expand its market in lower-end Asian and developing markets.
"Apple is hitting Nokia when it's vulnerable. How many billions of people in emerging markets would love to have an iPhone? These are a growing demographic," said YCMNet Advisors CEO Michael Yoshikami.
Tuesday's iPhone event took place at Apple Central -- the same venue where the iPod first was introduced years ago -- versus the larger, splashier venues of more recent choice such as downtown San Francisco's Moscone center.
Heading in to the event, many on Wall Street had questioned Cook's ability lead the company as Jobs did. In terms of stage presence, Jobs was a tough act to follow, but analysts say Cook acquitted himself well.
Twitter users were not impressed with the phone, though.
"Please note I will be selling some 'S' stickers for $0.99 so iPhone 4 owners have a cheaper upgrade option," wrote HAL9000 on Twitter.
Tomlinsonr tweeted, "I'll have a double helping of 'meh' with a side of 'whatever'."
The latest version of the iPhone comes as the economy slows and competition intensifies. People activate more than 550,000 Android-based devices -- including tablets -- each day.
Nielsen data shows the iPhone was No. 2 in the United States with a 28 percent market share, with Android at 43 percent.
Globally, iPhone shipments rose 9.1 percent in the second quarter while Nokia's plummeted more than 30 percent, handing the top spot to Apple with a market share of 18.4 percent, according to IHS iSuppli. Samsung, whose shipments grew faster, is coming on strong with a market share of 17.8 percent.
Despite disappointment online, analysts said the phone is superior to many rival offerings.
"Voice recognition has been on Google and Blackberry devices for years, but Apple will make it much more usable," said Morgan Keegan analyst Tavis McCourt. - Reuters

Apple to showcase new iPhone after 15-month hiatus

(Reuters) - Apple Inc looks set to unveil a new iPhone on Tuesday after a 15-month hiatus, hoping to fend off hard-charging rivals running Google Inc's Android and safeguard its lead with the fifth incarnation of the iconic device.
Newly appointed CEO Tim Cook will do the honors this time from Apple's headquarters, running the first major product launch in years without impresario Steve Jobs as he tries to take Apple to still-loftier heights.
The iPhone 5 -- expected to be faster, thinner and larger-screened -- would arrive just in time for the crucial holiday shopping season. It should sustain Apple's smartphone momentum and help ward off a challenge from close runner-up Samsung Electronics.
Apple launches are some of the hottest events on the tech calendar, scrutinized by fans, investors, the media and industry insiders alike. Tuesday's "Let's talk iPhone" show, starting at 1 pm Eastern time, will mark Cook's unofficial debut since taking over from co-founder Jobs in August.
Some shareholders and analysts expect a cameo appearance by Jobs, now chairman, though a no-show would not be a major disappointment.
With the launch of the new phone, Apple faces the challenge of surpassing the popularity of its current iPhone 4, a 15-month-old model and bona fide hit with more than 20 million sold in the third quarter ended June 25.
Some on Wall Street also expect the company to unveil a cheaper model tailor-made for the fast-growing Asian market, one of the few arenas where Apple can accelerate its growth.
"We expect improved processing power and camera capabilities, with a potential bump in RAM, though that may not be needed with iCloud," said William Power, analyst with Baird Equity Research.
"Various sources have suggested that Apple will debut more robust voice control functionality," he added.
The new iPhone is also expected to come loaded with the updated iOS5 software that Apple unveiled in June. Some of the new features include improved notification functions and better Twitter integration.
The iPhone -- still the gold standard in the smartphone market -- has been a huge success since it debuted in 2007, transforming it into one of the world's leading consumer electronics powerhouses.
But it faces stiff competition from phones based on Google's Android operating system, which led the U.S. market with a 43 percent share, Nielsen data show. The iPhone was No. 2 with 28 percent.
Globally, according to IHS iSuppli, iPhone shipments climbed 9.1 percent in the second quarter while Nokia's plummeted more than 30 percent, handing the top spot to Apple with a market share of 18.4 percent. Samsung, whose shipments grew even faster, is coming on strong with a global market share of 17.8 percent.
The iPhone 4 pricing starts at $199 and is available on the networks of AT&T Inc and Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications Inc and Vodafone Group Plc. Many analysts expect Sprint will become the third U.S. operator to sell the iPhone when the next version is launched.http://www.reuters.com/

Angelina Jolie appeals for Somalia at U.N. refugee award ceremony

(Reuters) - Angelina Jolie made a surprise appearance on Monday night at the U.N. refugee agency's ceremony to honor a Yemeni aid group credited with rescuing thousands of desperate Somali and other African refugees who arrive in southernYemen each year.
The Society for Humanitarian Solidarity and its founder, Nasser Salim Ali Al-Hamairy, were awarded the annual Nansen prize for their "dedicated service to providing life-saving assistance to thousands of refugees and migrants who arrive on the shores of Yemen every year."
Jolie, marking her 10th year as UNHCR goodwill ambassador during which she has made more than 40 visits to hotspots, appealed for help for people fleeing war-torn Somalia who cross the Gulf of Aden in overcrowded smugglers' boats.
"We must not forget what is happening in this part of the world. We must not forget how desperate they are when the only alternative is to risk death at sea and put their lives in the hands of ruthless smugglers," Jolie, appearing on stage wearing a long-sleeved white dress and heels, told the Geneva crowd.
"The staff of the Society for Humanitarian Solidarity often risk their own lives, pulling people from the seas. Sadly and all too often they also bury the dead. But there is no doubt there would be far fewer survivors if it were not for the Society for Humanitarian Solidarity and the team's devotion to humanity. We thank them," the American actress added.
Fighting in Somalia, compounded by a crippling drought that has sparked famine, has driven more than 18,000 Somali refugees to flee to Yemen already this year, double last year's total exodus, according to UNHCR. At least 120 have died this year.
U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres presented Jolie with a pin for the most long-serving staff. "She is the very best of the goodwill ambassadors that exist in the humanitarian world," he declared to applause.
The aid group's founder, Hamairy, received the award on behalf its 290 staff.

Is Carlos Tevez's career at Manchester City over?

City manager Roberto Mancini angrily said Tevez was "finished" at the club after accusing the Argentinian of refusing to appear in the second half of Tuesday's game with the Premier League team trailing 2-0.

Football: Tevez denies refusing to play for City

by Rob Woollard

MANCHESTER, United Kingdom, Sept 28, 2011 (AFP) - Manchester City star Carlos Tevez on Wednesday denied refusing to come off the substitutes bench during his team's Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich.

City manager Roberto Mancini angrily said Tevez was "finished" at the club after accusing the Argentinian of refusing to appear in the second half of Tuesday's game with the Premier League team trailing 2-0.

But Tevez denied Mancini's comments in a statement on Wednesday.

"In Munich on Tuesday I had warmed up and was ready to play. This is not the right time to get into specific details as to why this did not happen. But I wish to state that I never refused to play," Tevez said.

The 27-year-old striker blamed his failure to appear on "confusion" on the City bench and apologised to the club's fans for "any misunderstanding."

"I would like to apologise to all Manchester City fans, with whom I have always had a strong relationship, for any misunderstanding that occurred in Munich," Tevez said.

"They understand that when I am on the pitch I have always given my best for the club.

"... there was some confusion on the bench and I believe my position may have been misunderstood.

"Going forward I am ready to play when required and to fulfil my obligations."

Mancini had indicated Tevez -- who is reportedly one of the highest earners in English football with weekly wages of more than £200,000 -- would never play for the club again in the aftermath of Tuesday's defeat.

"If I have my way he will be out. He's finished with me," Mancini said.

"He refused to come on the pitch. What I said to Carlos is between me, him and the team but I am really disappointed because it is Carlos.

"Can you imagine a Bayern Munich, Milan or Man United player doing this?" he said. "He refused to warm up and again refused to go on the pitch.

"If a player has a lot of money to play for Manchester City ... he can't (refuse to play), never."

Ex-players and media commentators were united in support behind Mancini's hardlines stance on Wednesday, with former Liverpool Graeme Souness describing Tevez as a "disgrace to football."

"He (Tevez) is one bad apple," Souness told Sky Sports. "He's a disgrace to football. He epitomises what most people think is wrong with modern football.

"It is totally unacceptable. He's a football player and he is paid to play.

"He is refusing to help his team-mates. It's all about him, him, him."

Former City manager Mark Hughes, who signed Tevez before being replaced by Mancini in 2009, said the player's personal situation was behind his apparent unhappiness in Manchester.

Tevez has repeatedly signalled his desire to leave the club, citing a desire to be closer to his family in South America.

"The problem with Carlos is he missed his family," Hughes said.

"That's why he said if it was possible he wanted to leave the club, he had this situation with his family.

Yet sympathy was in short supply in the columns of British newspapers on Wednesday, where several commentators applauded Mancini for signalling the end of Tevez's career in Manchester.

"He should never be considered for the squad, never train with the first team. If he can be sold, profitably, then let him go. If not, let him rot beyond the reserves," Daily Mail chief sports writer Martin Samuel stated.

The Guardian's Richard Williams meanwhile accused Tevez -- a "grotesquely over-indulged 27-year-old infant" -- of committing a "crime against the game."

"If the outcome is an immediate transfer to Abu Dhabi, then that is exactly what he deserves: a career played out in a football desert," Williams wrote.-AFP
